It’s official. I am now working on the conversions of tan.j’s Lightwave Battlestar 3D models to DAZ Studio.

I will be giving these away for free from this blog.

These will have much better imported and fixed meshes.

The Old Battlestar Meshes I Converted

There was something funky about the old conversion work I had done on these about five-years ago, so I decided to start from scratch. Here’s one of those old renders. This is the Battlestar Galactica/Ouroboros V2. It was rendered with DAZ Studio’s 3Delight render engine. Looking back, this was a very poor attempt. I did not even properly smooth out the mesh and there were several missing triangles after import and a few other issues with the mesh. Not all 3D software come with quality import routines.

The New Battlestar Meshes I Am Converting

Here’s a sample of my latest conversion work. The logo looks crisp and the meshes have no issues when loaded into DAZ Studio, so far. I will post renders as I work until I am finished with them all and then work on releasing them.

  1. I just found your page here a few days ago, and I am so happy I did. I am so grateful to you for the work you are doing in converting these wonderful and beautiful digital models. I had seen many beautiful renders over the years that used the Tan J. meshes, and as hard as I tried, I could never find them so as to load them. I always thought the ships and the series are epic, stunning in so many ways. The Galactica itself was the star so often.
When you have the cannons finished how will they be integrated into the main model?
I will come back here often to see what you are doing. So grateful.

  2. Hi, and thanks for the kind words.
The Galactica is finished. You can go to the download section and download her. In the post I explain how I rigged the cannons to the main body.
