I restarted the Battlestar for DAZ Studio conversion project.
Since my last posting of the renders of the Battlestar Galactica on Facebook a few weeks ago, I have gotten questions about where I am with the conversion project.
Nowhere to be frank.
Most of what I have been doing on and off is studying the imported meshes and experimenting with fixing them. Familiarizing myself with the Blender tools.
Imported meshes from old Lightwave models are not fun, too many errors are introduced. As before, I will not be able to fix all the errors, just the ones that hinder the ability to use the mesh correctly in DAZ Studio, adding missing faces, removing inner faces, correcting normals, UV mapping, etc. Not just because of my minimum experience with 3D modeling and the software but because it will take too much time to go thru all the mesh.
This time I will be working in Blender for the entire process (this was easier said than done, I actually went back to my old software for some quick UV done the way I wanted). Here’s a screen shot of one of the meshes in Blender. I am fixing the imported mesh for the Battlestar Pacifica. I am fixing normals and searching for inner faces. This will take a lot of my time, so I will have to work on it as I find time and motivation.
The Pacifica is a complete Mark II Jupiter class Battlestar, the same class as the museum Orobourus/Galactica but with more of the armor (I intend to redo the Battlestar Oroborous/Galactica using this new process).
